Grenada, also known as the Spice Island, is a quiet volcanic island in the Caribbean with beautiful, white-sand beaches, lush rainforests, spice/chocolate plantations and amazing underwater beauty.
Average temperatures range from 75°F to 85 °F with a cool breeze. The lowest temperatures occur between November and February. Although the climate is warm all year round, the island does experience some seasonal changes depending on altitude. The dry season is between January and May and the rainy season is from June to December.
The islands are in the Atlantic Standard Time Zone (AST). It is one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) and four hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
*English is the official language but it is not uncommon to hear locals speak French-African Patois.
*On the island you will find cinnamon, nutmeg, clove allspice and chocolate plantations.
*The Moliniere Underwater Sculpture Park, created by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, has over 65 human sculptures on the ocean floor. They can be explored by snorkeling, scuba diving or glass bottom boat.
*Lake Grand Etang, formed over a dormant volcano, is said to be a bottom-less lake.
*Grenadians protect the large population of Leatherback Sea Turtles that nest on their beaches.
*The oldest water-propelled distillery, River Antoine Rum Distillery, has been producing rum since 1785. They are known to have 138-proof and 150- proof rum but don't expect to bring any home. It's not allowed on the airplane.
*Don't wear your camouflage gear on the island. It's illegal and exclusive to combatants.
